What a simple, yet excellent idea! Never heard of something like this before.

That type of thing would never go over here in the US. Almost all of my adult life I commuted by train or subway or walking or bus. Always lived in the city but now I live in the burbs and I still don't have a car.

We used to operate a car sharing policy where I worked - predominantly because of lack of car parking space! It worked - we used to have 50 or so cars that had 2 or more people in them when they got to work - in some cases people had been picked up from the train station, but more often than not they lived near each other so shared the driving.

It's fine if you work set hours, but it becomes more complicated when people work more flexible days. For the time I was car sharing it really helped to discipline me to leave work on time though - the other people didn't want to be there until 19000... they wanted to leave at 1730 as we all should have done.

I've recently started sharing the nursery run with a neighbour - it certainly helps me feel better about driving my son to nursery rather than walking him there (it's less than 2 miles, which is my normal cut off for using the car)
