One of the things that really marks the start of the Christmas season for people in Newcastle has to be the "unveiling" of the Fenwick Christmas window. I remember going to see it as a child (it started in 1971) and it was always amazing (although I remember some years it was rather intimidating).

This year the theme is a Winter Wonderland, complete with winter animals, Father Christmas, and I'm told Jemmima Puddleduck. I'm always impressed how they manage to keep the theme quiet until the last minute eventhough music is always provided by local musicians (this year it's been recorded by the Children’s Arts and Theatre School (CATS) in Gateshead. I'm looking forward to my son's response - he's been too young in previous years to appreciate the window, but he'll be going to see it later this month.


(Please note that the end date listed below is an approximation - I'm not 100% sure of the last day, but I know it's early Jan)
