for cold drinking water fill a jug from the tap and put it in the fridge to chill, that way you won't waste water by running the tap each time you want a drink of water by running the tap until the water tutns cold.

line the inside or terracotta plantpots with plastic and use mulch in borders - both will reduce evaporation, it halves the amount of water needed to keep your plants alive!

When you run water for a drink, catch the water you would usually let run until the waters cold and use that to water plants.

A few more easy tips for home maintenance..............
insulate your loft thoroughly with recycled newsprint - no nasty problems with fibres in commercially produced loft insulation irritating eyes, nose and throat
put shelves over radiators to deflect heat out into the room and put foil on the wall behind radiators for the same reason
line the grill pan with foil to reflect heat back and save on cleaning
sprinkle sodium bicarbonate on carpets, leave half an hour then vacuum up
flush washing soda down drains to stop foul smells
use methylated spirit on a soft cloth to clean telephones, silverware and add methylated spirit to water in a plant spray to clean windows
