The newspapers seem to have stopped printing stories about mobile phones frying the brains of children, but that doesn't mean it's a good idea for kids to have phones, does it?
Whilst I can understand parents who go down the route of phones-for-an-emergency, isn't that just instilling a sense of fear in them? I get the feeling this is something every parent ends up going through at some point and according to this Cnet article, 8 years old is the average age of children who own a mobile phone.

I dont think that kids that are very young should have a mobile phone. Of course there are benefits but soemhow I just think that its a bit too early.
