Following on from the success of my previous, long-lived post regarding PHP, Ruby on Rails and the growth and stupidity of dynamic languages, here’s a similar idea for the greatest MMORPG of them all, Eve Online.

Eve Online is a space-based MMORPG, like multiplayer Elite. It uses Stackless Python extensively and, uniquely, runs in a single instance – no sharding, everyone plays in the same virtual world. You really, really have to play Eve for an hour or two to get an inkling of how huge it is.

I’ve played Eve before, about a year ago in fact. I will play Eve again, there is so much to it that I may play it again after that too. Too much for me to write about in one blog post even. So here’s a list of the best snippets and stories to come out of Eve. If you know of any more, email me and I’ll add them to the list.

Learning the ropes

And something new already:
And EVE bank heist of $170,000.

And now there are some interesting stories coming out of other MMOs, including this one, from travian, wherein someone wins the game.

Back with EVE, they’re letting off nukes now! ViaZen of Design, the EVE forums and Kotaku. Credit to the comments on Zen of Design for naming the fatal flaw of these MMOs as ‘fun fatigue’.
