Final casualities post

February 15th, 2006, By Duncan Gough

Looking back through my notes of the conference, there’s a line that sticks out as something I hadn’t considered before, regarding why the Casual Games audience is largely female.

As per the scribble in the back of my notepad:

The female television audience deserted first. The male audience is showing signs of following suit.

Or words to that effect. I’m not sure that’s how I see it though. Have women given up on TV in favour of 10 to 20 minutes of casual gaming? I can see a clear line from TV to games but I’m just not so sure that television has so little left to offer women that it’s a largely men-only past-time now.

Update – As Alice suggests, ‘enjoy these games whilst they’re ad-free’.
