The Moon is a harsh mistress

The London bombings jerked my memory in a games-related way. In the aftermath of September 11th the cs_747 map dissappeared swiftly. When George Bush announced the invasion of Afghanistan, I first heard of it whilst playing CS. The game stopped for a while as each of us relayed the news. Compared to the sensationalist headlines in the newspapers (then and now), I was glad for the brief convesations we had whilst playing Counter Strike. Players from all over the world, from a number of age groups, agreed and disagreed on something that was to have a big impact on their lives.
