An amazing building and gardens founded by Lord Armstrong. It was the first domestic property in Europe to have electricity, all done through HEP.
The house itself is currenty closed as it's undergoing major refurbishment (including reinstating the HEP system) but the gardens are well worth a visit in their own right, with walks and drives to meet all levels of ability.
We got married there - a great location. Dragging people up from Kent (and further afield) we felt it had to be a memorable location, and that certainly was - everyone was amazed by the area, the gardens and the house.

Well, the refurbishment is over .... the HEP system has been fully reinstated, plus all of the lighting systems.
I can guarantee that it will be worth a visit, especially with all of the work having been completed.
Not only an interesting building historically and design wise, but a great example of "living green" (ok, a rather flamboyant one, but hey...why not?)
