I'm not quite sure what I make of this, but on the local newspaper's website is this article re the Thames Gateway needing to have green space to help prevent obesity. Well surely it has to have green space regardless to encourage and allow people to spend time outside.
It's great that they are taking it seriously, but this almost infers that there wasn't going to be much green space in the initial plans - all roads and houses.... ugh! As long as the space is well maintained and facilities are kept in good condition - we don't want it to end up being a dumping ground or "dangerous" for people to use. I also hope that there is enough of it so that people can just walk there and not have to get in the car.... the development is supposed to be served by good public transport links, so it would be great if it was an area where people didn't need to have a car.
A quote from the article:
"The initiative is to provide green spaces to encourage people to go on walks and for youngsters to plays sports such as football."
