Reading article "The Naughty Step" - Reply to this / 1 comment(s)
I hate the idea of a 'naughty step'. I hate it even more since it's become popularised by all those 'how to bring up your kids' programmes on TV. Reading this article about the dangers of 'positive reinforcement' make me think that the two practices are related.
I'll admit to using positive reinforcement with my son and clearly it is just to reward for giving me less cleaning up to do when he's eating or playing in the garden. The idea of turning him into a 'praise junkie' also rings true.

If someone does something they get praised, if someone does something bad they get reprimanded or punished...it teaches well. I always ask for feedback on anything I write or do so that I get the self satisfaction of doing a great job.
