"Human activity has had a devastating effect on coasts since Roman times, research suggests.
More than 90% of coastal life has declined and there is widespread degradation of water quality."
That's not a surprise though. The real question is, as always, what are we doing about it. In my experience, the National Trust does a good job preserving the coastal land it owns and there are lots of good initiatives around.
