This is a great way to harness some bird power - by fitting pigeons with sensors and letting them fly around for a while, transmitting the air quality data they collect to a weblog, giving residents a real-time picture of the pollution outside.

There's a long term benefit to this too:

"Though air pollution readings from the height at which the pigeons will flyâ€”between 300 and 500 feet above the groundâ€”wonâ€™t have immediate relevance for human health, UCI researcher Rufus Edwards thinks they may be important in conjunction with more standard air quality measures."
