This is a great way to harness some bird power - by fitting pigeons with sensors and letting them fly around for a while, transmitting the air quality data they collect to a weblog, giving residents a real-time picture of the pollution outside.
There's a long term benefit to this too:
"Though air pollution readings from the height at which the pigeons will fly—between 300 and 500 feet above the ground—won’t have immediate relevance for human health, UCI researcher Rufus Edwards thinks they may be important in conjunction with more standard air quality measures."
