I love this story - the Japan Railway stores up the energy from each passenger that passes through a turnstile. What a great idea.

Of course, us Brits have gone one better, and come up with a plan to harvest energy from footsteps on streets, which can "capture the footfall of 20,000 commuters an hour during peak usage â€” multiplied by 5 to 7 watts a person, thatâ€™s more than enough to power a buildingâ€™s lights for the day.â€
