hello just some information i found which i thought was really interesting. Bacteria in the mouth due to bad hygene can cause problem in other areas of your body such as heart disease, diabetes, blood infection, and also low weigh babies. Four out of every five people suffer from gum disease. The bacteria can travel throughout the bloodstream and cause inflamation through veins. People should start to drink flourided water because it helps to fight against bacteria in the mouth Reply to this

In the UK, most tap water contains flouride (there are a couple of water companies that don't add it, but I can't remember which). This helps to strengthen teeth.

It's not particularly this that helps against the bacteria - it's the act of cleaning teeth that is most important. As covered in this clear article aimed at teenagers or this from the FDA.
