As my friend Andy said to me, about half way through the show, "The part of my brain that analyses guitar solos has exploded".
This was the Black Crowes in London with Marc Ford for the first time in many, many years. I was lucky enough to see them play at the Brixton Academy at the time of their second album. The last time I'd seen the Black Crowes was a huge disappointment, it was like watching you favourite band and everyone present knowing that the spark had gone - things were as bad as they could get and you knew they wouldn't be around much longer.
Somehow, though, the Black Crowes had fixed everything that was wrong. The reformed with Marc Ford and for all the guitarists in the audience, it was a real feast. They're a Jam Band so if you're not into long instrumentals you won't have enjoyed it, but I certainly did.
The part of my brain that analyses guitar solos hasn't worked properly since.
I forgot to mention one thing, at the end of the show people ended up queuing for Instant Live CDs, which sounds like a great idea - get a live recording of the show burnt to CD whilst you wait, but, in reality, is a pain in the backside since you end up with two queues of people - one trying to get out the venue without being trampled, the other trying to get to the Instant Live desk to pick up CDs.
There should be a better way of sorting this out, as the Instant Live CDs I bought online of the same show later that week were money well spent.
Oh, and there's a track listing here, too:
